is we have a unique opportunity to do something big. we have a chance to stabilize america's finances for a decade, for 15 years or 20 years. if we're willing to seize the moment. what that would require would be some shared sacrifice and a balanced approach that says we're going to make significant cuts in domestic spending. and i have already said i'm willing to take down domestic spending to the lowest percentage of our overall economy since dwight eisenhower. it also requires cuts in defense spending. and i've said that in addition to the $400 billion that we've already cut from defense spending we're willing to look for hundreds of billions more. it would require us taking on health care spending. and that includes looking at medicare and finding ways that we can stabilize the system so that it is available not just for this generation but for future generations. and it would require revenues. it would require, even as we're asking the person who needs a student loan or the senior citizen or, you know, people -- veterans who are trying to get by on a disability check, even as we'

heated yesterday between obama and eric cantor. while they bicker, the big three credit rating agencies are warning the aaa bond status could be at risk. the debt ceiling deadline, as you may know, is august 2nd, but the president set tomorrow for the deadline to see if a grand bargain is possible, if not a bare bones bargain. if not, payments to critters, bill payments, you name it, there is not enough income to cover all that. every month we come up $125 billion short. if we cannot borrow to bridge the cap, 40% of the monthly obligations could not be paid, and that could include social security checks due to go out on august 3rd. the stakes we just laid out are monumental, so both sides have to give ground and risk their jobs for the good of the country. what is so hard about that, right? joining me with their insights on conflict resolution are cnn contributor, pete dominic, and family law attorney, mrs. winestein. what does it take for two entrenched parties to agree on a deal that both need? >> well, you know, the obvious is that you take the emotion out of the room and you try to

. they do, however, believe she's no longer in central florida. when she left the jail, you saw the big crowds there. there were people yelling "killer" in that crowd as she got into the suv and left. there is a great deal of emotion still unresolved around this case. we saw a lot of people getting together who were doing something peaceful with those emotions over the weekend. they went to the site where caylee anthony's body was discovered and held a march from that site to the anthony home. all to remember the child whose death started all of this. it was a very solemn occasion. a lot of people walking in the street. at one point it was reported there were cars lined up on the road about a half mile long of people just parking on the roadside going into those woods where her body was discovered to go to that spot and remember that little girl. again, a great deal of emotion. people trying to process all of this on their own. but casey anthony at the moment is still staying out of the public eye even though she has a lot of legal entanglements she will still have to address in the mon

street is worried about washington. late wednesday moody's one of the big three credit rating agencies warning it might have to lower the rating if lawmakers don't come to an agreement on raising the debt ceiling. in the statement it said the action was prompted by the possibility that the debt limit woil not be raised in time to prevent a missed payment on u.s. bonds with a small but rising risk of ashort-lived default. economists say if the aaa rating is lowered it will throw the financial markets into chaos and the cost of borrowing would go up to everything from morlts to car loans. ben bernanke warned. >> i think the worst outcome if we don't raise the limit, at some point we default on debt and that would create as i said before, a huge financial calamity. >> reporter: sources say the president knew about the moody's warning as he headed into wednesday meeting which all sides describe as tense. republican majority leader eric cantor cited the president as saying i have reached my limit. he left saying i'll see you tomorrow. the two sides couldn't even agree about what happened in

, indeed. they raised the stakes earlier on, making a big deal saying he no longer wanted to work with the white house, and yet we're hearing he's going to be at the white house tomorrow morning for more meatings. how is the white house iraqing to this? >> there's a lot of talk about the fact the president has put in repeated calls to speak eer boehner as the president tells it, in order to get a response. the white house made an outreach, an overture of the outline, and the president called speaker boehner's office first, and was told that speaker boehner wasn't available to talk to the president. this is not your stand protocol in president. you make yourself available to talk to the president or shortly thereafter. there is frustration about that expressed here, but there is still an openness and a willi willingness on both sides to negotiate because everybody wants to get the debt ceiling raised, and here, also, they say maybe this obama/boehner framework could be the deal in the end, so it's still not off the table from this perspective. >> you say there's a willingness on bo

. is that realistic at this point. >> well, in terms of getting that big agreement, it looks highly unlikely at this point, but certainly as you pointed out, the president joking that his campaign was built on hope and change. it will be interesting to see if that hope will also win out in this debate. but, look, what the president is pushing for still is the biggest deal possible. he acknowledged, though, that it's hard to do that, but nonetheless, he has been telling congressional lawmakers during negotiations all this week that if they can't get the biggest deal possible to attack the problem of the debt and the deficit over the long term, then they should still be ambitious. >> we are obviously running out of time, and so what i have said to the members of congress is that, you need over the next 24 to 36 hours to give me some sense of what your plan is to get the debt ceiling raised through whatever mechanisms they can think about and show me a plan in terms of what you're doing for deficit and debt reduction. if they show me a serious plan, i am ready to move. even if it requires some

found this really interesting. many people say that suggests these online pharmacist could be a big factor in the prescription drug problem overall. for one second i want to show you some numbers as to how big a number we're talking about here. . according to the national institute on drug abuse about 7 million people using prescription drugs for non-medical reason. in 2009 ant 3% of the population. nearly one in 12 high school seniors report non-medical use of vicodin. one in 20 say they used oxycontin. what's interesting, drew, is that 59% of those high school seniors also say they got the drugs from a friend or a relative. which brings up another question. as you've been pointing out in your reports, it's so easy to buy these drugs online. but if the pharmacies start to shut down, can people get term from their family or friends pretty easily? >> they certainly will. but i think it's the proliferation of the ease of getting these drugs. and even people who want these drugs, let's say a doctor predescribes them. but the prescription runs out. they're addicted. they want to keep it

it flipped. that caused a big mess and even bigger traffic jams during the morning rush. the on-ramp at route 123 was closed for some time. the accident has since been cleared. also new today, one person is dead following a crash involving a tour bus and a tractor-trailer in new york. police say the driver of the tractor-trailer died from his injuries. that crash happened on interstate 90, which is a main route through central new york. investigators say the bus, which was carrying about 50 people from ontario to new york city had experienced mechanical problems and it may have been pulling back on to the highway when the accident happened. about 20 of the passengers were taken to the hospital. >>> right now vice president joe biden is swearing in leon panetta as secretary of defense at the pentagon. you're looking at live pictures from there right now. panetta is taking over from robert gates, who served as defense secretaries under presidents bush and obama. the 73-year-old panetta was previously director of the cia. general david petraeus is taking over that position. panetta was chief of

temperatures in the 80s. they're really not getting involved in this big warm up if you're headed out to santa clara, they're getting in the 90s. but we're getting a lot of fog here. it's shallow but it's moving into parts of the south bay. so fog then sun, cool to mild to nice to warm to hot. depending on where you are in proximity of that fog and coast. it's a cool pattern, inland upper 80s. 90, 95 for those warmest locations unless you're really far away from the coast and maybe a few pushing in a little bit further than that. there are signs that next week another weak little system will come in which will start another cooling trend that won't be until saturday or sunday. 50s in these temps. concord 55. same for napa, san rafael. san francisco, oakland, livermore 58. and high pressure continues, i think it's put on the brakes. i really do. what we had yesterday is taking into today. maybe some tropical clouds coming around that. again it moves into the sierra of southern california. sunny inland, warming ends by friday, maybe even saturday. we'll have to keep an eye to the south. fog some

may not be adding up and it could mean a big break for dominique strauss-kahn. strauss-kahn could have his bail reduced or lifted because of of his accuser's possibility. prosecutors initially stood by the woman's story. now the "new york times" reports investigators have caught the accuser in a series of lies surrounding the case. they suspect she may have been involved in drug dealing and money laundering. the maid apparently had a phone conversation with a jail inmate discussing the benefits of pursuing the charges against strauss-kahn. once considered a leading contender for the french presidency he saw his political career and financial krublble after his arrest. forensic evidence confirms there was a sexual encounter but defense attorneys always insisted it was consensual. >> once the evidence is reviewed it will be clear that there was no element of forcible compulsion in this case whatsoever. >> reporter: after posting a $6 million bail, strauss-kahn was confined to house arrest. the arrangements are costing him $250,000 a month. after today's hearing he could be released on hi
